Nail Foil

Create unique designs at home with nail foil

With nail foil, you can easily add metallic finishes, patterns or holographic effects to your Gel Polish. This popular technique lets you create eye-catching foil nail art right at home without needing advanced painting skills. Simply transfer the design onto your nail to get a beautiful look that lasts.

What is nail transfer foil and how does it work?

A nail transfer foil is a thin sheet of decorative material with a metallic or patterned side. You apply it by pressing the foil onto a sticky surface, such as cured Gel Polish or a special adhesive. When you peel the foil away, the shiny design remains on your nail, creating stunning foil nails in seconds.

What types of nail foils can you choose?

You can find many different styles of nail foils to match your look. Common choices include shiny metallic foils, holographic designs that catch the light, floral patterns and classic lace prints. Some foils cover the entire nail, while others are great for creating abstract fragments.

Do you need a special nail foil glue?

Yes, you need a sticky base for the foil to adhere properly. You can use a dedicated nail foil glue that air dries until it becomes clear and tacky. Alternatively, you can use a specialised foil gel which you cure under a UV or LED lamp for 30 to 60 seconds before applying the foil.

How do you apply nail transfer foil step by step?

Applying your nail transfer foil is a simple process that you can do at home with these steps:

  • Prepare your nail and apply your Base Coat and Gel Polish as usual, curing each layer in the lamp.
  • Apply a thin, even layer of nail foil glue or foil gel over the cured Gel Polish.
  • If using gel, cure it in the lamp. If using glue, let it air dry until it becomes completely transparent.
  • Press the foil firmly onto the tacky surface, using a silicone tool or your finger to smooth out any air bubbles.
  • Gently peel the foil backing away to reveal the design.
  • Apply a layer of Top Coat and cure it for 60 seconds in your LED lamp to protect the design.

Why is the nail transfer foil not sticking?

If your foil does not transfer completely, it is usually because the adhesive layer is not sticky enough or has been cured too long. If using foil gel, try reducing the curing time slightly. If using nail foil glue, ensure you wait until the glue is completely clear before pressing the foil down. Always make sure to press firmly and evenly across the entire nail surface.

Can you use nail art foil with Gel Polish and Builder Gel?

Yes, nail art foil works incredibly well with Gel Polish and Builder Gel. If you use Builder Gel to strengthen or extend your nails, you can apply your foil adhesive directly on top of the shaped and buffed builder layer, then proceed with the transfer before sealing it with Top Coat.

How do you seal the foil so it lasts?

To ensure your design stays neat for weeks, you must seal it with a durable Top Coat. Apply the Top Coat over the transferred design, making sure to cover the entire nail and cap the free edge. Cure it for 60 seconds in your LED lamp. If you want extra protection, you can apply two layers of Top Coat, curing between each layer.
