Base Coat and Top Coat for long-lasting nails

Base Coat and Top Coat are essential steps in your Gel Polish routine. Base Coat helps your color adhere properly, while Top Coat seals it in and gives you the finish you want. Here you’ll find everything you need to start and finish your gel nails, so you can achieve a beautiful, long-lasting result.

The difference between Base Coat and Top Coat

Base Coat and Top Coat each play an important role in your nail routine, and it is important to use both for a beautiful, long-lasting result.

A Base Coat is always applied first after nail prep. It creates strong adhesion between the natural nail and your Gel Polish color. At the same time, it helps prevent discoloration of the natural nail. A good layer of Base Coat is the foundation for a manicure that lasts longer.

A Top Coat is the final layer that seals your Gel Polish color. It protects against scratches, bumps, and chipping, and gives your nails either a beautiful, glossy shine or an elegant matte finish, depending on the option you choose. Top Coat is the layer that helps your nails look fresh and newly polished for longer.

What is the difference between Base Coat and Top Coat?

Base Coat is the first layer you apply to help Gel Polish adhere to the nail. Top Coat is the final layer that seals in the color, adds shine or a matte finish, and protects the color from wear.

  • Cure the Base Coat in your UV lamp for 60 seconds.
  • Apply your chosen Gel Polish colors in thin layers, and cure each layer in your UV lamp for 60 seconds.
  • Finish with a thin, even layer of Top Coat. Cover the entire nail, and ideally seal the free edge of the nail for extra durability.
  • Cure the Top Coat in your UV lamp for 60 seconds.
  • If you are not using a No Wipe Top Coat, there may be a sticky layer. Wipe this off with cleanser on a lint-free wipe.
