Essential tools for nail preparation
The right preparation is key to ensuring your Gel Polish lasts and looks beautiful. Metal tools are useful when shaping your nails, pushing back cuticles, and removing dry skin. You’ll find a variety of tools that make the process easier and more efficient.
Which nail tools do you need as a beginner?
As a beginner, there are a few essential metal tools that will make your Gel Polish routine easier. These tools help you prepare your nails correctly, which makes a big difference to achieving a long-lasting result:
- Cuticle pusher: Used to gently push back the cuticles so your Gel Polish can adhere better.
- Cuticle nipper: Practical for removing loose skin and cuticles that may lift.
- Nail clipper: For shortening natural nails to the desired length.
- Tweezers: Ideal for small, precise tasks, for example if you are working with Nail Art or need to pick up small items.
How do you use a cuticle pusher?
A cuticle pusher is an essential tool for preparing your nails before applying Gel Polish. Our steel cuticle pusher has two ends: a pusher end and a scraper end. The triangular cuticle pusher has a pointed end and a flat end. Here’s how to use it:
- Make sure your nails and cuticles are dry. You can gently soften the cuticles with a cuticle remover if needed, but avoid using too much water.
- Use the rounded or flat end of the pusher to gently push the cuticle back towards the base of the nail. Use gentle, even pressure to protect the nail.
- If you have stubborn cuticles, you can use the pointed end or scraper end to carefully loosen them from the nail plate.
After pushing back the cuticles, the nail is ready for further preparation, such as filing and applying Base Coat.
What is the difference between a cuticle nipper and a nail clipper?
Although both are cutting tools, they have different purposes:
- Cuticle nipper: This tool has small, sharp blades and is used to remove loose skin and cuticles along the nail edge. It is ideal for precise work when you need to remove small pieces of skin without cutting into the live skin around the cuticle. Our cuticle nipper is available in 4 mm, which gives you great precision, and 8 mm, which cuts a larger area at a time.
- Nail clipper: This clipper is designed to shorten the nail itself. It has stronger, curved blades that easily cut through the nail plate and leave a clean edge. The nail clipper is not intended for cutting cuticles, as it may tear or damage the delicate skin around the nail.
Other useful metal tools
In addition to the basic tools, you may need more specialized metal tools depending on your Gel Polish routine and the looks you want to create. These tools help you achieve a clean result.
What do you use a tip cutter for?
A tip cutter is a specialized tool designed to cut Nail Tips to the desired length. It differs from a regular nail clipper by having a curved blade that creates a clean, even cut in the plastic material. You get a neat and precise cut, which is important for achieving a salon look with your extended nails.
Keep your metal tools clean
Keeping your metal tools clean is important for hygiene and for extending the lifespan of your tools. Clean tools also give you a better starting point for creating a beautiful result.
How do you clean metal nail tools?
You should always clean your metal tools after each use. Here is a simple method:
- Wash the tools thoroughly with warm water and soap to remove visible residue from products or skin.
- Rinse the tools carefully under running water.
- Dry the tools completely with a clean, dry cloth to prevent rust.
- For extra hygiene, you can disinfect the tools with a suitable disinfectant spray or liquid intended for nail tools.
- Store your clean and dry tools in a closed box or pouch to protect them from dust and dirt.
