Find the right gel color for your look

When choosing a color, it is also important to consider which type of gel product best suits your needs. The different gel types each have their own function and properties, even though they can all give you beautiful, colored nails.

What is the difference between Gel Polish, Builder Gel, Polygel and Rubber Base?

These gel products are all used for nails, but they have different primary purposes and consistencies:

  • Gel Polish: This is a thin, liquid gel product designed to be used as a color coat. You apply it in thin layers on top of your Base Coat and cure it in a UV lamp. It gives you a beautiful, opaque color.
  • Builder Gel: A thicker gel product primarily used to build, strengthen or extend the nail. Builder Gel gives the nail extra strength. It is available both in a jar (Builder Gel Jar) and as a thinner version in a bottle (Liquid Builder Gel). You’ll find it in clear, milky, nude and opaque colors, which can be used on their own or underneath Gel Polish.
  • Polygel: A firm and moldable gel product that feels like a blend of gel and acrylic. Polygel is used for nail extensions and building the nail. You can shape the nail at your own pace, as the product only cures under the lamp. Like Builder Gel, it is available in several shades that can be worn on their own or underneath a colored Gel Polish layer.
  • Rubber Base: A flexible Base Coat that gives the natural nail extra strength and elasticity. It adds an extra layer to the natural nail and can also be used for short extensions. Rubber Base is often transparent or comes in subtle nude colors, which you can use on their own for a natural look or as a strong foundation for your Gel Polish.

How to choose the right nail color

With so many colors to choose from, it can be difficult to decide. Here are a few tips to help you find the right shade for you.

Which Gel Polish colors are popular right now?

Color trends change, but you can always find inspiration by looking at our bestsellers. Classic shades such as deep reds, elegant nude tones and timeless pink colors are always popular. In summer, bright and pastel colors are often in focus, while darker and more intense colors are seen in fall and winter. You can also use our color filters to explore specific color groups such as blue, brown, glitter, gray, green, white, purple, nude, orange, pink, red and transparent.

How do you choose a nail color for your skin tone?

Choosing a color that complements your skin tone can flatter your hands. In general, these guidelines apply:

  • Light skin tone: Cool shades such as light pink, light blue, mint green and plum often suit a light skin tone.
  • Medium skin tone: Most colors suit a medium skin tone. Try shades such as coral, warm pink, peach, dark blue and burgundy.
  • Dark skin tone: Bold and deep shades look beautiful on dark skin tones. Go for metallic colors, bright blues, deep purple, emerald green and warm reds.

However, these are only suggestions. The most important thing is that you choose the color that makes you happiest.

How to apply your gel colors

Correct application gives your colored nails a beautiful and long-lasting result.

How many layers of Gel Polish should you use?

For most Gel Polish colors, we recommend applying 1-2 thin layers. A single layer often gives a more transparent or semi-opaque look, while two thin layers provide a more intense and opaque color. Remember to cure each layer in your UV lamp for the recommended time – typically 60 seconds for an LED lamp.

Discover special effects with Cat Eye Gel Polish

Do you want nails with an effect that changes with the light? Then Cat Eye Gel Polish is for you.

What is Cat Eye Gel Polish?

Cat Eye Gel Polish is a special type of Gel Polish that contains fine metal particles. When you apply this Gel Polish and hold a magnet just above the nail, the magnet draws the metal particles together. This creates a "cat eye" or 3D pattern on the surface of the nail, giving an effect that changes when the light hits it. You then cure the color in the lamp to lock in the pattern.
