Modeling gel

Modeling gel for strong and durable extensions

Modeling gel is a versatile product that allows you to build and shape your gel nails exactly the way you want. Whether you want to add strength to your natural nails or create extra length, this gel gives you a stable and durable result. With modeling gel, you can work at your own pace because the product does not run or cure before you place it under a lamp.

What is modeling gel?

Modeling gel, which is also commonly known as polygel or acrylic gel, is a thick nail extension gel that combines the strength of acrylics with the flexibility of gel. It has a firm, paste-like consistency that is easy to control. This makes it a popular choice for building extensions, fixing broken nails, or simply giving your natural nails a protective overlay.

How does modeling gel compare to polygel?

The terms modeling gel and polygel are often used to describe the same type of product. Both have a thick, clay-like consistency that does not run into the cuticles, allowing you to shape the nail at your own pace before curing. Some brands call it polygel, while others use the term modeling gel.

What is the difference between modeling gel and builder gel?

While both are used to strengthen and extend nails, they have different consistencies. Builder gel is more liquid and self-levelling, meaning it smooths itself out on the nail. Modeling gel is much thicker and does not move on its own. You have to actively shape it using a brush and a sanitiser to prevent it from sticking to your tools.

How to use modeling gel for extensions

Creating extensions with modeling gel is straightforward when you have the right tools. You can use dual forms to get a smooth surface and a neat shape with minimal filing.

  • Prepare your natural nails by pushing back the cuticles, filing the shape, and removing the shine with a buffer.
  • Apply a thin layer of Base Coat and cure it for 60 seconds in your LED lamp.
  • Find the right size of dual forms for each nail.
  • Squeeze a small bead of modeling gel into the dual form and shape it using a brush dampened with a sanitiser.
  • Press the dual form gently onto your nail, use a clip to hold it in place, and cure it for 60 seconds under your lamp.
  • Gently wiggle the dual form to remove it, file the edges to your desired shape, and finish with a glossy Top Coat.

How do you use dual forms with modeling gel?

Dual forms are reusable plastic moulds that you fill with modeling gel and press onto your natural nails. This technique makes it easy to get a smooth, even surface because the form shapes the top of the nail for you. Once you cure the gel in your lamp, you simply pop the plastic form off and file the edges to finish the look.

Do you need a UV or LED lamp to cure modeling gel?

Yes, you always need a UV or LED lamp to cure modeling gel. The gel remains soft and workable until it is exposed to the light. We recommend curing each layer for 60 seconds in an LED lamp to ensure the product is completely hardened.

Can you use Gel Polish over modeling gel?

Yes, you can easily apply Gel Polish over your finished modeling gel nails. After you have cured and filed your extensions, wipe away any sticky residue. Then you can apply your favourite Gel Polish colours and finish with a Top Coat for a glossy and durable result.
